Trichotillomania: Why “How” Is Better Than “Why” – And How

So many of us already feel bad enough about ourselves because we have trichotillomania. Do we need to make it even worse?

It’s only natural to feel bad about our situation when it comes to compulsive hair-pulling, a condition better known as trichotillomania.

In having worked directly with hundreds of trichotillomania cases over the past 12 years now, it’s become evident to Glei and me that things are commonly made worse by what we say to ourselves about the situation.

For example, do you find yourself asking questions like, “Why do I always do this?”  How about, “Why can’t I stop?”  Or perhaps the most damaging question of all – “What’s wrong with me?”

Now I have a question for you… Have these kinds of questions ever actually solved your problem? Or might it be true that they actually made things worse?

The truth is, once you become aware of your chronic self-talk as it pertains to trichotillomania, you now at least have the potential to change things for the better.

So, What Do You Do Instead?

Well, it turns out that questions aren’t all bad. In fact, if you know the RIGHT questions to ask yourself, you can actually “reprogram” your brain to take you in the opposite direction – in the direction of what you want in your life, not what you don’t want any longer.
