The fact is, most of what we hear about trichotillomania relates to the female experience of it. This is entirely understandable given that 80% or more of trichotillomania cases are presented by girls and women.
But what about the guys? Are boys and men exempt from this problem? Are they somehow immune to it?
Turns out that’s not the case at all. While there hasn’t been a lot of research on the subject, it’s still well-known that approximately 1 in 5 trichotillomania sufferers is male!
And that got us wondering. I mean, Glei and I know something about the male experience of trichotillomania because we work with boys and men as well as we do women, but we were curious to explore what the research says on the subject.
We didn’t find much. Somehow – some way – little if any formal research has been done pertaining specifically to male trichotillomania.
So we thought we’d offer you the next best thing, which is a report from us about what we’ve noticed having worked in the trenches with hundreds of trich sufferers – including many boys and men – over the past approximately 10 years.
We’ve learned a lot – and we can’t wait to share it with you here. 🙂
